It is not a beautiful meditation on mortality like Up nor a deep dive into complex emotions like Inside Out , but it was never intended to be. Cars 2 is a buddy-spy comedy that wears its heart on its greasy, dented fender. It takes a risk by handing the keys to the least likely character and argues that true friendship is not about protecting someone from their flaws, but about standing beside them while they prove the world wrong.
