The filename "acq" is a shorthand for "acquisition." Therefore, acq.dll serves as a module that handles the from a hardware source. While Windows has a standard system for this called TWAIN, specific hardware manufacturers often develop their own proprietary DLLs to unlock advanced features of their devices.
