Trishna
Psychologically, Trishna can be viewed as the engine of human progress and the architect of human anxiety. It is the "hedonic treadmill"—the observation that humans quickly return to a relatively stable level of happiness despite major positive or negative events. We achieve a goal (a new job, a new car), the Trishna is momentarily sated, and then a new desire takes its place. This perpetual dissatisfaction is what drives economies and civilizations forward, but it also fuels the modern epidemic of burnout and existential dread.
