The UPD16311 operates on a dynamic drive principle. Inside the chip, there are three primary functional blocks:
: Operates on a 1/8 to 1/16 duty factor , allowing for efficient multiplexing of display grids and segments. Voltage Support : High-voltage output capability up to upd16311
: Uses a 3-wire or 4-wire serial interface (STB, CLK, DIN, DOUT) similar to SPI, making it compatible with most modern microcontrollers. The UPD16311 operates on a dynamic drive principle
MCU (5V) UPD16311 ------- -------- SCK -----> CLK MOSI -----> DIN MISO <----- DOUT SS -----> CS | |---- VDD (+5V) |---- GND |---- VEE (-30V) via resistor/cap for VFD bias |---- SEG1-16 to VFD anodes (with resistors) |---- GRID1-11 to VFD grids (NPN transistors optional) |---- KS1-8 to key matrix rows |---- KO1-8 to key matrix columns MCU (5V) UPD16311 ------- -------- SCK -----> CLK
: An 8-step dimming circuit is built-in to adjust display brightness.
