For a significant portion of the 2010s, Neon Genesis Evangelion was notoriously difficult to find in high definition outside of Japan. Due to complex licensing issues between Studio Khara, Gainax, and international distributors, the series was stuck in DVD limbo while the Rebuild of Evangelion movies enjoyed crisp 1080p releases.
If you currently own the "Platinum" DVD collection, it is time to retire it. The increase in video clarity alone is worth the upgrade. When GKIDS (in North America) and Anime Limited (in the UK) announced the Neon Genesis Evangelion Blu-ray , fans braced for the worst. The result was a compromise: the 26-episode TV series restores Fly Me to the Moon in the Japanese audio track for the main episodes, but it is present in the English dub or on the "Episode:25'" and "Episode:26'" director’s cuts. It’s a messy situation, but for purists, it was a massive victory that the song survived at all.
