This process was known as "transcoding" or "decrypting." The result was a perfect, 1:1 copy of the file the user had purchased, retaining the original 5.1 surround sound, high-definition video quality, subtitles, and chapter markers. The only difference was that the file was now free. It could be played on a PlayStation, an Android tablet, a smart TV, or backed up to a hard drive for posterity.
