When Elden Ring launched in February 2022, it was hailed as a masterpiece—a sprawling, hauntingly beautiful collaboration between George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki. Critics gave it near-perfect scores, and it went on to win Game of the Year. However, for the dedicated PC gaming community, the launch was bittersweet. While the game’s design was flawless, the technical state of left many frustrated with stuttering, frame drops, and mouse control issues.
The catastrophic stuttering is 95% fixed. FromSoftware implemented a background shader compilation step on first launch (invisible to the user but active during the initial loading screen).
