As the characters moved from interns to residents, and eventually to attendings, the tone of Scrubs shifted. Seasons 5 through 7 dealt with the consequences of growing up.
When we are introduced to John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff), he is a nervous intern at Sacred Heart Hospital. The genius of these early seasons lies in the ensemble cast. J.D. is our narrator, a day-dreamer whose internal monologue provides the show’s voiceover structure.
