As the title suggests, Undercover shifts the gameplay formula slightly. While previous entries had players patrol the Autobahn as the iconic duo Semir Gerkhan and Ben Jäger, the fifth game puts you in the role of a new, unnamed undercover cop. The goal? Infiltrate a notorious car theft and smuggling ring operating in the fictional city of (a stand-in for Los Angeles, marking a departure from the usual German setting).
Crash Time 5 doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does polish the arcade chaos.
A new feature in Crash Time 5: Undercover is the garage system. While previous games forced you to drive the fictional "Cobra 11" modified Dodge Charger, this installment allows you to purchase and modify "undercover" vehicles. Want to infiltrate a street racing ring in a tuned Audi R8 clone? You can. Want to chase a getaway driver in a heavy SUV? Go ahead. The customization is shallow (mostly performance upgrades and paint jobs), but the variety is a welcome addition.
