The film opens with divers exploring a sunken sailboat, the Orca II . One diver disappears. Cut to: Amity Island, where former Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) is now a nervous wreck. The traumatic events of the first film have left him with panic attacks and a hyper-vigilance toward the sea.
The teenage cast (including a 19-year-old Keith Gordon and a pre-fame Mark Gruner) nicknamed the production “Jaws 2: Electric Boogaloo” and held nightly volleyball games on the beach. The film’s second half is where Jaws 2 finds its own identity. A group of teenage sailing students—including Brody’s sons Mike (Mark Gruner) and Sean (Marc Gilpin)—set out for a day trip. Meanwhile, the real shark (a larger, more aggressive great white) picks off a helicopter pilot, a water-skier, and a pair of divers. When the teens’ sailboats are damaged, they become stranded in the open water. Brody, now stripped of his badge, steals a boat and races against time to save his children and their friends.
