Pick Mudkip . It evolves into Marshtomp, then Swampert. Swampert has only one weakness (Grass). It learns Mud Shot early, which destroys Wattson’s electric types. It also learns Surf and Waterfall. Swampert is the "Easy Mode" of Hoenn.

Here’s a helpful feature idea for a hypothetical “Pokemon Emerald Inexperienced” version (aimed at new or casual players):

When standing outside a Gym, the Guide says something like: “Trainers here favor a certain type. Moves that resist or counter it might be wise.” — no direct type naming unless the player asks for a hint by pressing a button.

Features Terastallization available for the player from the start, "Frostbite" instead of "Freeze," and type-effectiveness displays in battle.

You cannot do that in Emerald.
