The language of Kosala is raw, colloquial, and often abrasive. Nemade intentionally avoids "polished" Marathi. He uses the dialect of rural Western Maharashtra mixed with the broken urban slang of Pune. This style shocked readers in the 1960s but is now celebrated for its authenticity.
