One of the most striking aspects of "District 9" is its use of social commentary. The film tackles issues such as segregation, xenophobia, and the dehumanization of refugees, drawing parallels with real-world situations. The District 9 camp, where the Prawns are forced to live, is a bleak and impoverished environment, reminiscent of the refugee camps that exist in many parts of the world.

This was a radical risk. Blomkamp wanted to test the audience’s empathy. How far can you push a design before the viewer stops caring? The answer, it turns out, is not very far.
