The latest version of EnCase Forensic, now officially rebranded as OpenText Forensic
EnCase 21.4 no longer supports Windows 7, Windows 8, or Server 2012. It also drops support for 32-bit evidence files. All new cases must be 64-bit.
"Network acquisition over E01 format takes 4x longer than v20." Fix: Disable "Compression Level 9" (max) in the acquisition settings. Use Level 4 or Level 6 for network drives. The V3 engine prioritizes compression over speed by default in v21.4.
The latest version of EnCase Forensic (v24.x) successfully modernizes a legacy platform that was at risk of obsolescence. The transition to native 64-bit, cloud acquisition, and AI-assisted analysis aligns EnCase with competitors such as Axiom (Magnet) and FTK (Exterro). However, its continued dependence on Windows (versus a web-based or cross-platform UI) and the additional cost for cloud modules may deter small-to-medium labs.
