Realtek drivers often power down the audio chipset after a few seconds of inactivity to save power, causing a "pop" when audio starts again. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtek\RAVCpl64\PowerMgnt to prevent the chipset from powering down, or increase (default is often 10 seconds).
