In retrospect, this heartbreak was a turning point. It stripped away the innocent, girl-next-door image and forced Deepika to confront the harsh realities of love in the limelight. It was her first real taste of how a romantic storyline could bleed into reality, and how the public felt entitled to the intimate details of her pain.
