Style - Midi 2
The "MIDI 1 Style" was architectural. We built songs out of blocks. We quantized drums to the grid; we drew in automation lines. It was precise, clinical, and responsible for the "perfect" sound of 90s and 2000s pop and EDM.
To understand the new style, you must first understand the old pain. MIDI 1.0 uses 7-bit messages. This means every piece of data—note velocity, knob position, pitch bend—is a number between 0 and 127. That is only 128 steps. midi 2 style
