Volume 6 is often praised for its "punchy" and "video-gamey" feel , moving away from the more experimental or 16-bit MIDI sounds of earlier volumes. The production quality, mastered by Jeremy Iamurri, was a significant step forward for the Homestuck Music Team.

Vol. 6 arrived during the A5A2 – Alternia arc, following the trolls’ introduction and the reveal of their midnight crew roleplaying session turned reality. The album is heavily themed around the ancestors (The Sufferer, The Signless, The Dolorosa, The Handmaid, The Summoner, etc.) and the 12 trolls' extended backstory , featuring motifs tied to the post-scratch Alternian empire. homestuck vol 6
